Seconds from Disaster: On the evening of May 6, 1937, the German airship Hindenberg was attempting to moor down in Lakehearst, New Jersey, when all of a sudden, it burst into flames. Of the 97 people on board, 13 passengers and 22 crew-members were killed. One member of the ground crew also died, bringing the death toll to 36. This resulted in the total collapse of the zeppelin industry.
